I bought a little box of some vintage postcards at a yard sale the other day, and when I went through them, I found this little gem in the bottom of the box:
It looks to me like a cashier's check from 1840 for $1000, and it's never been cashed. Now I need to get somebody who knows something about antique documents to take a look at this for me. If you know anyone . . .

This looks like a bond -- it is a promise to pay $1000 after seventeen months. The investor would have paid less than the face amount for the bond, and the difference is the interest.
Do get it checked out. It could be worth something, but probably not $1000. But who knows?
